I always have conflicting thoughts when creating artwork to promote charities and to support causes. It's certainly not to do with being bigoted, racist, homophobic, sexist or anything else \"ist\"... you name it.
I hope I'm not any of these. But I know I could be a better person.
Maybe I've been raised with this feeling of guilt for what may appear to be exploiting others in need... I know where that comes from, and that's for a different blog entirely!
What I know of myself is that I care, for all life forms... plant, person and even parasite.<\/p>
The issue I have with myself is the issue that has been conditioned into me not only from the media and corporations, at the detriment of the lowly artist and their confidence and well-being, but also throughout the years \"yeah, but it's NOT gonna pay the bills is it!?<\/strong>\"<\/p><\/blockquote>
I am alone in feeling guilty for charging for art I've created all my life? Yes, yes I am. It's a reason I have \"a real job\" and not a job that represents all my artistic hobbies, throughout my entire life, that doesn't pay the bills. In fact has never really paid for anything. Other than mental health issues.
Sorry, maybe this isn't how a Blog works to promote your work... probably not, but maybe after years of feeling guilty and 'small' when I create something artistic, maybe only now I'm feeling confident to speak out... but safely behind the art too.
I understand to create we do need to spend, and yes, we need to cover our costs of materials and time. It's time that you cannot put a price on, or can you? It's not until you personally invest the time do you realise how much it's worth, and that is priceless.
So yes, we're supporting PRIDE<\/a><\/strong>, yes, and yes I'll always support a cause that is attempting to help a person in need, a pet in need, a planet in need... and will always continue to do so. You know what? I really have an issues with bullies, with someone or something that's aim is to slowly silence you, and suppress you.<\/p>Myself and Wayne at Robot Recordings, truly believe in the power of all Art (Capital \"A\"), to treat people as you wish to be treated yourself. Maybe that is naive.. but if you've ever been treated unfairly and suppressed and made to feel small, then there's only so much that you can take and this is when companies like Teemill help us 'little folk' raised up... PROUD!
We've always felt the representation of Artificial Life forms in books, films, art holds up a mirror to society... we can shed a tear for David in A.I: Artificial Intelligence when he's abandoned in the woods by his 'Mother'; do we empathise more with the fictional robot, android, artificial life when they are suffering? How do these feelings we experience via this fictional media form differs to the experiences taking place on our doorstep?
Maybe I'm a hopeless romantic, and think we have it in us to be better people for this planet, for each other. I'm a romantic cynic, conflicted by self-confidence. But why should the bully continue to suppress and silence? It's taken a while to speak up... <\/p>Robot Ant x<\/strong>
